 In Math we started investigating fractions. We used pattern blocks to understand how a fraction is broken up into even parts. A.M.A. what a numerator and a denominator are!

 In Science this week we looked at physical and behavioral adaptations in various animals. A.M.A. how physical and behavioral adaptations are different! A.M.A. some of the interesting adaptations we saw! 

 We have swimming Monday and Wednesday next week!

A HUGE THANK YOU to all the parents that were able to support our field trip to Butterfield Acres this past Wednesday! We truly appreciate your time, and the students were so happy for the opportunity to take their learning to a new environment!

Students have no school on Friday, May 18 and on Monday, May 21.
See you all on Tuesday, May 22.

Students are coming home with a homework assignment for Social Studies. The assignment is explained on the sheet, and will require adult support, so parents, please take some time to assist your child with this task! Thank you! This task is due on Tuesday, May 22!

Hello families!
We are looking for volunteers for our upcoming trip to Butterfield Acres.

This is a full day activity and takes place on Wednesday, May 16. We ask that parents be here by 9:30 for the bus trip and we will return close to 3:00.
We are looking for 15 volunteers, five for each classroom. A Sign-up Genius will be available tomorrow for you to use. Please make sure you have an updated security clearance for this trip. Consent forms will be sent home with your child to be completed prior to the trip.
Thank you for making this trip possible. Without our parents, we could not provide these opportunities for our students!

Secondly, we are anxiously awaiting your fabulous family recipes! Please make sure to include an ingredient list as well as the instructions for preparation. If there is a story about how this dish connects to your family's story, please make sure your child knows this and can share it with us! These are due on Thursday of this week!

We started swimming today. A.M.A. how it went and what level I got put in! Our next swimming is Friday, May 11th, first thing in the morning.

 With the warming weather we will be spending a lot more of our gym time outside. Please make sure to bring a water bottle, hat, and sun screen to school.

Don't forget to return your field trip forms for our visit to Butterfield Acres!

On Wednesday we got to wear our hats to school in support of Mental Health Awareness. Thank you to those who participated by wearing a hat! A.M.A. what mental health means to me.

Our residency with Urban Arts ended at our performance last night. We did a hip hop dance using the moves Kevin taught us. We showed off our records using graffiti that Candace taught us, and we also did rap made up of lyrics that each class made up to create a fantastic song! We thank the families that came out to see us and we hope they all enjoyed it as much as we did!

In Science we made a storyboard about an animal that we researched, learning about it's life cycle, and it's enemies.

Swimming starts on Friday next week. Please make sure your forms and fees are in by Monday!

No school tomorrow!

Swim forms went home today. Please make sure to return the permission form, swimming ability form, and activity fee by April 30th.

Several students are bringing home their venn diagrams from science, these are due Monday. Students were to compare animal classes (reptile, amphibian, mammal, bird, fish, insect, arachnid) and list three similarities and differences for each.

We look forward to seeing everyone at our performance on Thursday April 26th, we have many great things we are excited to share!

Special Lunch forms are due on Thursday, April 19th.

Grade 4 health forms are due on Monday.

We have been comparing different classes of animals using a Venn Diagram.
A.M.A. what are some of the types of animals I have been learning about?

We have been learning the french words for the titles of people in our family (ma mère - mom, mon père - my dad, etc.) A.M.A. why some  nouns have 'le' or 'mon' before, but others have 'la' or 'ma' for their article.

This week we started playing Badminton with the nets!

The grade 3/4 community honoured the Humboldt Broncos on Jersey Day - we wrote inspirational cards that will be sent to the Humboldt Arena.  We listened to the song "Leave a Stick by the Door" by Jason Smith.

This week we started our Urban Arts Residency. Urban arts is a mix of rap, hip-hop, and graffiti. We practiced doing something called a ‘canon,’ which is where you do a certain move one at a time as a group. A.M.A. what my favourite hip-hop move was.

This week in gym we started practicing our badminton skills through different stations. A.M.A. what the stations were and what my favourite was.

In Science we started learning about animal life cycles. We have been learning all the important vocabulary we will be using for this unit.

In Social Studies we presented our brochures to our classes. After we heard everyone present from our class, we picked five countries from our classmates that we would want to visit based on their brochure. We are in the middle of writing paragraphs about which countries we’d visit and why. A.M.A. what my five favourites were!

Special lunch forms are coming home today, they are due back April 19th. Please read the form carefully as we are using a new ordering system!

The past two weeks we've been doing hip-hop dance with Nando from Sound Kreations. Today was our sharing assembly, thank you to all the parents who were able to come join us! If you didn't come to the assembly, A.M.A. what my dance was and how it went!

We have continued working on our travel brochures for our background countries. We are excited to share our brochures at next week's Student Led Conferences! Don't forget to book a time!

This week in Science we've started wrapping our structures for "The Other City." Our cities will also be shared, either as works-in-progress or finished products at next week's conferences.
